How many books till you get to the center.....

Anyone know that song? Come on girls, I know you know it!! How many books ARE there any ways? I see 10 or 11 on the web but are they all part of the same series? I want to start reading these so that I understand a little bit about where the show is headed but also a little bit about what they are leaving out of the show.

There are 11 books that I am aware of RichardCFan. The show doesn't always follow the books and one of the writers (Mike Sussman) stated that they used about 70% of the Stone of Tears and sprinkled it throughout Season 2.

There are 11 books.

Book 1: half the book is the pilot episodes. It then deals with the fight against Darken Rahl and preventing him from opening the boxes of Orden.
Book 2: Richard is 'kidnapped' by Verna to the Palace of the Prophets and Kahlan kicks evil horde butt. This book really moves the general backstory along - the world of the Seeker of Truth becomes much larger and it starts the Emperor Jagang/Imperial Order storyline. These stories are continued (all in a different way!) up to book 9.
Book 9, 10 and 11 are a trilogy and as such should be read together, otherwise you miss out and only get a frustrating 'to be continued' at the end

There's Debt of Bones (Sword of Truth Prequel Novel), which takes place before Wizard's First Rule and is about Zedd.

Awesome, I'd like to read that one as well... Richard is a good character but Zedd and Nathan are simply bad ass mofo ninja wizards!
